Lincoln Fest 2024 aka Una Fiesta de Espuma EPICA

Yeah, so kids like foam! Huge thanks to the sponsors of our trademark end of year bash: Olga Negron & Nick Englesson, Brian Panella, Fifi’s Ice Cream Truck, Communities in Schools, Glitter by Vee, and Foam a Friend. We had an absolute blast bringing the year to a close with burgers and dogs, music, raffles, a stunning student art show courtesy of Ms. Rambo, cotton candy, ice cream, and carnival and lawn games run by wonderful Northeast Middle School volunteers, many of whom were Lion alums coming home to Lincoln to help out. We are always so proud of our block party—it’s a night for our Lions to purely enjoy themselves, and man did it make us well up to spot whole families decked out in spiritwear. Thanks to every PTO board member, Lincoln family member, and community partner who helped put on this night for the kids. Here’s a drone-video recap of the action!

The Future(Thon) Is Bright For Lincoln Lions

To celebrate our 80th anniversary as a school, we’re looking toward the next 80 years! Our Lions capped a thon fundraiser with a lap around our neighborhood in shirts featuring fourth grader Alivia Harris’s “The Future Is Bright for Lincoln Lions” contest-winning design. AND they contributed the most inspiring, creative and funny thoughts on their futures for this slideshow. We couldn’t feel better about turning the world over to this generation of leaders.

We Are Now All Galliganiacs

Thanks to an incredible coalition of sponsorship—the Columbus Foundation, Communities in Schools, Patient First, the Petrucci Family Foundation, Unity Bank, and PTO/Lincoln Reading Specialists’ funds—we had an absolute monster hit of an author visit on May 9. NYT bestselling middle grade graphic novelist Gale Galligan electrified the building with creativity and connection, AND everyone got one of their books. Special thanks to our heroic librarian, Mrs. Rusnock, our reading specialists Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Ibarra, Let’s Play Books, and Scholastic Inc. Check out our recap:

The Book Fair Where Everyone Reads

Two years ago, the PTO approached Gerrity’s the Fresh Grocer (Valley Farm Market) with a dream: What if every kid at Lincoln could experience the magic of the Scholastic Book Fair? In years prior, a high percentage of our kids weren’t able to participate—and a bin of pre-purchased free books just wasn’t cutting it, not with those glorious brand-new Dogman and Babysitters’ Club graphic novels sitting feet away. Gerrity’s—a company started by a mom and former teacher—just got it. For two years running, they have donated $1000 to our Book Fair coffers so that we can offer every Lincoln Lion the literacy experience the Book Fair sparks: When kids choose a book, and own that book, they’re more likely to stay interested in reading. By combining Gerrity’s donation with our accrued Scholastic Dollars, we’re proud to say that two years in a row, every single kid has come to the book fair and left with the title of their choosing—regardless of price point and how much they brought to spend.

Just check out the magic that happens when the book fair goes fully inclusive…

80s Night for 80 Years

What better way to celebrate 80 years of school history than with an ’80s Night, said a PTO board full of millennials and Gen Xers? We loved seeing kids and parents alike turn out in their tubular best to mark this milestone for our school. From raffles to dancing to an epic buffet—and an official citation from Representative Steve Samuelson!—it was the perfect way to kick off the next eight decades. Thanks so much to everyone who came out!

Build A Lion, Make a Memory <3

We had such a sweet time bringing our Lincoln Family together for our first “Build a Lion” Night. We stuffed our new plush freinds, slipped in wishing hearts, strung beaded collars and wrote out birth certificates. It was truly heartwarming to see how long and hard every kid who attended thought about their new little friends’ names! Big thanks to Carmela Cirilli for planning this event, Tara Carroll for making *the* most delicious baked goods, Layne Gehris at Style You Need for our adorable mini-Lion spiritwear shirts, Edana Hoy from BAPL for lovingly administering our “read to your new friend” corner, and every Lincoln parent (60+ of you!) who came to help their student with this activity.
