Two years ago, the PTO approached Gerrity’s the Fresh Grocer (Valley Farm Market) with a dream: What if every kid at Lincoln could experience the magic of the Scholastic Book Fair? In years prior, a high percentage of our kids weren’t able to participate—and a bin of pre-purchased free books just wasn’t cutting it, not with those glorious brand-new Dogman and Babysitters’ Club graphic novels sitting feet away. Gerrity’s—a company started by a mom and former teacher—just got it. For two years running, they have donated $1000 to our Book Fair coffers so that we can offer every Lincoln Lion the literacy experience the Book Fair sparks: When kids choose a book, and own that book, they’re more likely to stay interested in reading. By combining Gerrity’s donation with our accrued Scholastic Dollars, we’re proud to say that two years in a row, every single kid has come to the book fair and left with the title of their choosing—regardless of price point and how much they brought to spend.

Just check out the magic that happens when the book fair goes fully inclusive…
